"I don’t understand you. You say you want to help, and you say you do what you do for the good of the world, but now you’re just outright refusing to do exactly that? All those innocent lives you’re leaving vulnerable, they’re the ones we’re trying to protect, the ones we fight for. You go through the risk of taking the law into your own hands, purely out of your own volition to put back into improving the world, to bringing justice. And now all of a sudden, from nowhere, you’re just turning against your ideals? Going against everything you stand for? That’s what I don’t get. I’ve seen first-hand what you’re capable of. I know you’ve committed yourself to this, sacrificed so much, because I have as well. I know you’d give your life for what you do. So what’s stopping you now? This is the chance to change things for the better, possibly on a scale we were never able to before. And if I die doing it? I don’t know about you anymore, but that’s a risk I’m willing to take. Somewhere inside, I think you're willing to risk it too."
―Susan to Isaac Bubbles

Susan Ann Englebert is a Lieutenant of the New Haven Police Department (formerly the Empire Bay Police Department) and the younger sister of Adria Englebert. Born to police officers Emma and Ezra Englebert, Susan was raised in a healthy and loving environment, becoming inspired by her parents in her early years to follow in their footsteps and join the police force. However, their devastating deaths in late 2008 led Susan's grief to manifest and consume much of her life. The event also led Susan to become estranged with her increasingly unstable sister, Adria, who disappeared suddenly following a brutal and deeply emotional fight between the two.

Years later, Susan graduated from Florida State University with a Masters' in Law and Sociology. Afterwards, Susan graduated with distinction into the Empire Bay Police Department in 2015, earning herself a long and effective career. Susan swiftly gained a sturdy reputation for closely following the law as well as taking great pride in her professionalism, working hard to combat against the deep-seeded corruption and bigotry within the department. In mid-2015, Susan came into contact with the former thief turned vigilante, Isaac Bubbles, then actively operating in Empire Bay, who was working during an ongoing case involving deadly toxins. Working together with the former thief, Susan struck up an unlikely camaraderie with, and affection for Isaac during their time together on the case. During and after their defeating of the culprit Dr. Sunshine, Susan's relationship with Isaac deepened as a result of their team-up. However, she eventually let go of (more accurately, compartmentalised) her feelings for him to instead focus on other priorities aligning elsewhere, returning to her duties as an officer.

At the Battle of Empire Bay, Susan stayed behind to evacuate the public and was entangled in the fight alongside detective Steven Roth. The two eventually escaped via boat to the mainland. It was not long before Susan accepted an offer from Dexter Browne, Empire Bay's then Chief of Police, to move to New Haven, the 51st state of America, and join the newly established New Haven Police Department, which consisted mostly of those previously forming the EBPD.

A year following their first encounter, Susan met Isaac again during a case involving the illegal supply of weapons across the USA, including New Haven, by a militant terrorist organisation known as the Iron Dynasty. Briefly re-conciliating with and convincing a reluctant Isaac into helping her, with her promotion into the Anti-Terrorist Task Force, to take on the organisation, Susan narrowly escaped an ambush that resulted in the Task Force's destruction, leaving the two of them alone in which their relationship deepened. Susan fought them off alongside Isaac across the Nevada state, leading to a confrontation with the groups leader, revealed as none other than her sister, Adria. After Isaac is taken captive by Adria, a torn Susan took on overwhelming odds in order to confront her sister at the abandoned Nevada Test Site. Failing to reform her sister, a brutal fight between them ended with a sympathetic Susan, suffering major injuries, to spare her sisters life and stopping her plans for nuclear war. Weeks following Adria's arrest and the dissolution of the Iron Dynasty, Susan forced herself to say goodbye to Isaac once more in spite of their growing love, resulting in another emotional parting that left her regretful.

Biography

Early Life

Influential Childhood

Susan Englebert was born on Wednesday, 14th of July 1993 in Polk County, Winter Haven, Florida, to her mother, Emma Englebert, and father, Ezra Englebert. Along with her older sister, Adria Englebert, Susan's childhood was a somewhat privileged one, with her parents being of middle class status after they broke away from the strict, wealthy upper-class Englebert family lineage. At the age of 5, Susan attended the Beymer Methodist Preschool for preschool and afterwards the Chain of Lakes Elementary School, where she remained until reaching the sixth grade. Susan was not especially popular, but she gathered a small group of friends, mostly composed of boys, which kept her happy. In 2004, Susan was forced to relocate to Empire Bay following her parents promotion to Captain and Deputy inspector, where she then attended Lone Oak High. At this point in time, Susan's sister Adria had became a lawyer at Empire Bay, though she lived away from the rest of the family.

Losing her Family

On the 20th of July at the age of 16 in 2008, approximately 6 days after her birthday, Susan was in the middle of class when she was called into the principal's office. Having received a call from the Empire Bay Police Department, the principal gently informed Susan of the death of her parents, having both been murdered in an arrest gone wrong. Devastated, Susan attempted to contact her sister, Adria, but to no avail. Returning home immediately, Susan found it empty and in the days following was given ownership of the house due to Adria's absentia. The funeral took place on the 29th of July. The death consumed Susan's life, leaving her with long-lasting trauma and guilt.

Two weeks after her parents death, Susan was confronted by the surprise of Adria coming to visit, who was visibly in pain and wrecked. Being begged by Adria to join her in her quest for revenge against the perpetrators of their parents death, Susan tearfully rejected her, leading to a brief fight between them. Adria stormed out, blaming her sister for their parents demise and leaving Susan alone. Despite searching for any trace of Adria, Susan found nothing and gave up the investigation, believing her sister gone for good and accentuating her guilt.

Academia

Two years following the death of her parents in 2010, Susan graduated Lone Oak High and moved back to Florida, this time to Tallahassee, where she enrolled at Florida State University as an undergraduate, taking a degree for Law and Sociology for 4 years. Socially, Susan isolated herself from most of her friendship groups, distancing herself from them in part to work on her academia and to avoid loving people again, believing that it would only lead to more grief and pain. Following her graduation, Susan continued on Law and Sociology in a masters degree for a year, whilst simultaneously training to join the police force once the degree was complete. In 2015, Susan completed her masters degree and graduated fully with a first.

After graduating, Susan fully committed herself to a police training academy for 25 weeks where she exceeded all expectations and came out as the top of her class. During this time, Susan made plans to once again relocate back to Empire Bay once she was finished at the academy, having seen that her former home was overrun with crime and promising herself that she would continue on the work her parents started.

Starting the Case

Several months later, Susan continued working as a Lieutenant for the NHPD. One night in late October of 2017, during the final hours of her shift doing paperwork in her office block, Susan was called to a disturbance occurring on Honor Lane in the Erimount district, brought on by reports of gunfire and an explosion. As she went to investigate the crack house, she discovered alongside the other officers a number of thugs beaten to the point of unconsciousness inside, with signs of a weapons deal gone wrong; the dealer behind it, Linwood Deplatt, having been killed via a stab wound in the neck as his car strangely crashed into a nearby lamppost.

The next morning when waiting for backup to quell the civil unrest and the forensics team to come in, Susan received a telephone call from Dexter, asking her to come back to the department and speak with him in his office. Upon arriving, Susan was offered the job of joining the department's Anti-Terrorist Task Force, with Dexter citing Susan's loyalty and high records amongst other reasons for why he offers her. Unsure of how to respond, Dexter left her to consider the offer in her own time, leaving Susan to get back to working on the case.

Reuniting with Isaac

The following night, Susan was on her night-shift watch in the department, using up her spare time to think carefully about the ongoing major case and the offer to join the ATTF. Suddenly, the sound of glass smashing from the floor above led Susan on a chase to apprehend someone stealing from the evidence lock-up. Eventually confronting the thief, Susan discovered them to be her old ally Isaac, of whom she had forgotten about, much to her surprise and frustration. With Susan stunned by his re-appearance, Isaac used it as an opportunity to flee the scene, successfully escaping.

Left to think about her conflicted feelings towards Isaac and repair from the shock of seeing him, Susan went back to work without sleep before prompting herself to research into the whereabouts of where he could be. Having discovered his address, Susan went to confront him at his apartment, kitted with a search warrant in case Isaac decided to rebel against her entrance. Surprising him as well with her own appearance, Susan made clear her intentions of not arresting him, stating that she believes him to be true. While initially full of bitterness, Susan also made clear that she was glad to see Isaac again, expressing her genuine happiness and care for him and receiving the same compliments back, albeit awkwardly.

Returning to the business she originally came to deal with Isaac, Susan inquired about the evidence gathered by him, to which he gave over easily. Susan cheekily reminded Isaac that he could have simply asked her, in the process questioning him as to why he wouldn't have let her known he was alive as well as informing him how he came to find him again. Finishing up her notes of the evidence, including a key set of coordinates left back at the scene, Susan, with full sincerity, warned Isaac not to follow up on the case and retire in order for her to try to protect him. To her bewilderment, Isaac easily agreed, giving up his work seemingly with the intention to flee New Haven as fast as possible. Disappointed in his apparent lack of motivation, Susan made to leave, jokingly telling him to stay out of trouble, and departed following a few brief exchange.

Break-in at NHPD

After her brief reconciliation and catch-up with Isaac, Susan immediately returns to Dexter's officers, agreeing to the offer. Susan proudly received a fake golden badge with her name enscribed upon it, with Dexter clearly happy for her excitement and eventual acceptance of his offer, and the two of them shared glasses of bourbon. When they finished, Dexter brought Susan down to the third floor of the department where the A.T.T.F were awaiting her arrival, alongside a banner, much to her surprise. Dexter left Susan to mingle with the crew, speaking to her teammates such as Adrian and Alyssa. During the party, Susan overheard a deep conversation between two other members, Ryu and Kalil, discussing her slight reputation as a 'loose cannon' and her fight back in Empire Bay. She dismissed this as mere chatter, returning to the celebrations as she reminisced about the previous chaotic state of the department.

Several hours later, Susan and the rest of the A.T.T.F's welcome party was brought to an unexpected spot at the arrival of a gun-man via the elevator leading down, killing one of their members, Tom. With the others holding down the shooter, Susan, lost in shock and horror, went to the side of Tom, who tried to grasp for her with his arm; leaving a bloody handprint on her shirt and badge as he slowly died. The gunman used cyanide to commit suicide during this.

With backup arriving to secure the floor and the shock slowly dissipating, Adrian attempts to implore the team to think logically, much to the dismay and frustration of the other members as they devolve into a huge argument. Adrian again tried to calm the peace, asking them to consider people who could replace Tom to which nobody was able to reply. Susan, having kept quiet during the argument, had the bold idea to tell them that she 'knew a guy', thinking of Isaac. Though her idea is met with bewilderment and criticism, Susan's unshakeable faith in Isaac prevailed; enlisting herself to go to him personally that night and convince him.

Convincing Isaac & Leaving for Nevada

"“Hold up, what's that on your face? Woah, look. It’s a smile!”
“Isaac!”
“Aw, come on, don't hide it. That’s a real keeper right there, especially when the rest of the police force always have whatever that default, stone-cold warrior look is called.”
“Smoldering?”
“Yeah, that’s the one. It’s as intimidating as you are. That is to say, not at all.”
“Keep this up, and I actually will arrest you.”
“I'd like to see you try.""
―Isaac Bubbles and Susan Englebert

At around 8:30pm that evening, Susan slipped back through Isaac's department with her gun. Hearing Isaac wake, Susan used the cover of darkness to detain him, cautious in case he attacked, pressing him into a wall in order to search him. Commanding him onto the bed, Susan apologised for her rather aggressive threats as she turned on the light, citing that she had to be careful due to the 'climate', which catches Isaac's curiosity. Isaac responded defensively, wondering exactly what had gone wrong and threatening to fight back in case Susan had come there to arrest him. Reassuring Isaac that she would not do so, Susan attempted to properly talk with him about what had happened just a few minutes ago and in order to ask him for his help, but Isaac responded to her genuine pleas with push-back, refusing to hear her out.

Susan eventually managed to convince Isaac to hear her out fully, to which she explained the situation and to offer him to join the team, knowing his invaluable skills and experience both personal and otherwise. She also tried to use the incentive of trying to slightly clean Isaac's records, a deal that she had arranged with Dexter. However, Isaac continued to refuse, thanking her for the offer nonetheless, to Susan's confusion and frustration. Inquiring as to "what happened to you", Susan was hit back with the blunt response of 'I changed', forcing her to think that she had said or done something wrong for Isaac to be so stubborn. Still defiant, Isaac refused one last time, prompting Susan to angrily question his uncharacteristic behaviour and criticise him for the possible consequences his actions could create, pointing out that through this he would be directly defying his morals and code, clearly trying to speak to his better side.

Beyond Susan's belief, Isaac finally relented and agreed to joining her. With Isaac packing up his things and following her out to the car, Susan shared a brief moment of relaxed, playful banter with him on their way down, returning her to the dynamic she once had with him upon their first interactions as though it had never stopped. In the middle of this, Susan's fears of trusting and opening herself up hit back at her, scared at how eased and free she felt and she lied to Isaac, having asked if she was okay. Driving them both to the department, Susan would introduce the team to Isaac, who received prejudice due to his negative reputation as an on-and-off vigilante in New Haven, before going to bed, preparing herself for their leaving the next day.

Rendezvous at Barstow

By morning, Susan quickly got together her gear to set off on a helicopter alongside Isaac, Mitchell and Mark, leaving New Haven for the first time in ages. During the peaceful hours and the newfound feelings of freedom that proceeded, Susan spent her time thinking about her happiness from joining the police force, her parents encouragement and the strong relationship with her sister, Adria. However, Susan's memory seemed to falter as to what happened to Adria, her mind having blocked it out completely, but she continued on nevertheless.

Landing at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Susan was handed Isaac a mobile tracker to keep if they became separated. Susan disclosed her scepticism regarding the easiness of the situation with Isaac, unaware he felt a similar premonition. They drove through Las Vegas, passing the Valley of Fire into Goodsprings toward Interstate 15 in Nevada, where a blockade was formed and lost contact.

Reaching the destination, Susan was horrified and guilt-ridden but undeterred upon finding the entire barricade decimated and its officers killed, inducing the arriving A.T.T.F to clean the mess. Susan confidently relayed the plan from Adrian to divide into two groups, with her half going out to confront the attackers while his stayed behind. Being the only option left, Isaac begrudgingly continued accompanying her through Barstow.

Reaching night midway down the intersection, the three ATTF vehicles on the Barstow Freeway route observed tire-tracks heading into an open area of the Mojave National Reserve and sought to confront the attackers early. Deciding to rest, the team parked their vehicles for the night to sleep.

Given the long journey, Isaac's troubled mind built to breaking point, kicking sand and throwing his sword to the ground for it only to bounce back and hit him in the eye, vexing him further. Wishing to comfort him, Susan exited the vehicle and attempted to calm the angered Isaac when, hurt by claims that she could never understand him by having a perfect life, tearfully spilled that her family were dead. Speechless, Isaac helped ease the tension by apologising for his ignorance. Susan composed herself and accepted it, probing Isaac once again for others when her persistence lead to a conversation involving Isaac trying to illustrate feeling unloved by his father, his moral codes in addition to Susan's own past troubles.

To alleviate the pain in losing her entire family, Isaac told Susan about the concept of the afterlife passed down to him by Cobra from Celestial beliefs, creating an extra bond between the compassionate duo. Abruptly being kissed on the cheek by Susan, Isaac, touched by the gesture, eventually fell into "one of the best sleeps of my (his) life."

Mojave Desert Ambush

Susan awoke early the next morning to find Isaac in greater spirits, practising with his swords. Offering herself up to join in helping him, Susan spoke of her previous skills in wielding bladed weapons when he was taught fencing by her sister, Adria, which stopped when she disappeared. Being overpowered by Isaac to the ground, Susan trips him over while on the ground, making the two of them laugh together before helping each other up.

Plans to move on were unexpectedly cut shortly by a bike darting toward them from the horizon, carrying a cloaked figure with steel-plate armour. The bike having almost rammed into them, Ulysses pulled a gun on the group, killing Barton and Merlani. An angered Keawe tackled Ulysses to the ground, shooting and killing him. Sensing an ambush,  Susan was grabbed by Isaac as they retreated to their vehicle, watching the scene unfold in safety as the armoured figure, with its glowing red mask, kept a perpetual gaze on Susan. Huddleston, Patterson and Uris shot hopelessly at the armoured figure before being caught in an explosion of the cruiser behind them, killing Patterson, Huddleston and crippling Uris. Keawe also made a failed attempt to stop the figure, killed by three shurikens. The swordsman mercilessly finished off the crawling Uris, slitting his throat with two Chinese hook swords.

Glued to the unfolding events, Susan was brought out of her trance by Isaac yelling to escape, prompting her to start the car and accelerate toward the figure in an attempt to crash into them. Isaac pushed her to start the car to escape and attempted to crash into the figure. Instead they flew over the roof and thrust their sword into the car, attempting to kill the two just as Susan slammed the breaks to throw them off. Out of nowhere jeeps carrying soldiers in militia-esque uniforms with an unknown insignia engraved upon them, and a Humvee armed with a turret, arrived as backup, killing the remaining Anti-Terrorist Task Force members. The swordsman mounted their bike and gave them a signal to wait.

Surprise turning to determination, Susan accelerated forward while Isaac prepared to fight back, with the swordsman signalling their back-up to follow. A brutal and bloody chase ensued between Susan, Isaac and the army in the Mojave Desert National Reserve: Susan suffered major injuries, including a stab to her right hand, several bullet wounds and immense blunt force trauma. The chase ended abruptly when Susan, mishearing Isaac's warning, jumped a forming gap in the Providence Mountains, which had been blown open by a stray explosion, right before the gap became too wide. Their battered car rolled down onto Interstate 40.

Narrowly escaping with the swordsman still in hot pursuit, Susan tried applying a tourniquet using rolls from the glove compartment around her right wrist, where her hand had been split open, and Isaac took the wheel. The two were given an ultimatum at a sign on U.S Route 95: risk their lives and turn left to Barstow to warn the rest of the Task Force, or continue forward down the Veterans Memorial Highway through Searchlight and onward to Las Vegas to call for help. Failing to properly tie the tourniquet, Susan let Isaac help her out, giving her the freedom to choose their path onward from here, but Susan was distracted with trying to find her missing badge, which had fallen out of the car during the skirmish. Isaac suggested it to have been lost in the conflict, saddening her deeply.

Tuning into the Task Force's radio, Susan spoke with a distraught Adrian Kriegel overwhelmed by gunfire in the background and warning the two not to return; the operation had been taken. Following the radio silence and static, Susan realised the Task-Force was gone. Agreeing to continue to Las Vegas, Susan uncomfortably moved seats with Isaac, driving on in silence and pain.

Nevada Border Pursuit

Passing the Nevada border by 4:00, Susan spent the journey to Searchlight contemplating the identity of the swordsman who attacked them, trying to break their image down in order to fit them into people she may have known. The image of their burning eyes sticks in her mind as well, with Susan realising that, unlike Isaac, this was beyond anything she had ever faced. The two considered whether it was safe enough to keep on travelling, with Susan having a gut feeling of dread, and after much deliberation agreed with Isaac to continue on nevertheless.

During the ride, Susan attempted to start a proper conversations but failed, with Isaac speaking first of his happiness that she was there with him, saying that they worked well together as a team. Despite a brief dialogue, Susan began to overworry with anxious thoughts before suddenly feeling at ease again, prompting her to ask Isaac about his family life and his motivations. Susan engaged in a lengthy conversation with him, listening to Isaac reluctantly explain his confusing alien lineage with his father as a Celestial and him as a human. As Isaac relayed an old cultural belief of the Celestials regarding life beyond death, Susan was deeply touched by the idea, saying she still had a lot of questions and would save them for another day.

Seventeen minutes later, Susan arrived in Searchlight, with the two stopping at the Rebel Oil general store for diesel, bringing her Beretta for safety. As Isaac paid the nervous clerk, Susan and Isaac were ambushed by two men in the store, the clerk being killed in the crossfire as Isaac pushed her out of harms way. When Isaac grabbed a surviving attacker, Susan took over from him to allow him to call, threateningly forcing him to talk about their employer. Describing it as "humanity's saviours", the attacker revealed that he works for an organisation called "The Iron Dynasty" before biting down on a cyanide mollar in his tooth, killing himself.

Fleeing the store, Susan and Isaac found themselves under gunfire from afar, the town clearly overrun, forcing the two to retreat back onto the main road. As they discussed the possible modus operandi of the so-called "Irony Dynasty" as well as its leader, Susan would eventually agree upon the culprit behind the mask being Dr. Sunshine, his body reportedly unseen following his death. Without thinking, seemingly unconsciously, Susan put her hand to Isaac's, startling her when he told him.

On their way to Las Vegas, Susan considered the brief touch they shared a moment ago and unexpectedly asked Isaac whether she could talk to him about the death of her parents and its affect on her. In addition, she suddenly recalled the memory of her sister, Adria, revealing the reason behind why she left. The reveal left Isaac, from what it seemed to her, rather startled, with the two continuing on their conversation down the road.

Hiding at the Monte Carlo

Quickly stopping at a car dealer in Boulder City for Isaac to purchase a new car, the Ford F-350 SD King Ranch, Susan reached Henderson city by night, specifically 17:50) Passing McCarran International Airport and down South Las Vegas Boulevard, Susan was briefly cruised around by Isaac down the strip, viewing several hotels, casinos and restaurants such as the Hard Rock Cafe and Mandalay Bay to Frank Sinatra's 'Luck Be a Lady' before deciding alongside Susan to buy a room at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. Parking the car, Susan playfully scoffed at Isaac for not having owned a proper license, with him immediately understanding the gesture.

With Isaac purchasing Room 135 with 2 separate beds on the seventh floor facing the strip for them with his leftover funds, Susan went first to shower before him. After finishing and receiving a compliment from Isaac to her humanity, which she replied with a smile, Susan called Dexter in order to gather orders as to what to do next. Relaying everything in the phone call to Isaac and having slipped a spare firearms in his drawer she took from their old cruiser, the two quickly agreed to investigate the casino floor in case of the potential return of the Iron Dynasty.

Some time during her walk around, Susan furiously confronted Isaac on his action and seeming irresponsibility, before being told his honest intentions to give her something in return for the situation they were in. Deeply ashamed of herself, Susan's mind suddenly sparked with a strange idea to take him up onto the hotel rooftop lit by the moon and Vegas strip lights, where she danced with Isaac to Bloodstone's 'Natural High.' Almost embracing each other, the rain began to fall which stopped Susan from kissing him. Both returning to their room, Susan is thanked by Isaac just before they drift to sleep for "taking me (him) to the sky", making her smile.

Skirmish in Las Vegas

Around midnight, Susan woke up to find the hotel room completely gassed out from a smoke bomb thrown through the window by the Iron Dynasty. Immediately seeking to awake Isaac, who became startled by her coughing and worried voice, the two prepared their escape and quickly conjure a plan together, hearing Dynasty soldiers heading to their hotel room. When the soldiers arrived and rammed down the door, Isaac hid just above the door to take down two of the men in the smoke, triggering the room to be shot up whilst Susan unloaded her pistol clip on them, signalling Isaac to drop down and knock out the remaining men whilst shooting the fire extinguisher.

Picking up the soldier's weapons, Susan made her way down the corridor with Isaac. Forces from the elevator and the South stairwell forcing them to take the North spiral stairwell, Isaac fearfully admitted they were past the point of return. Determined more than ever, Susan grabbed hold of Isaac's hand to reassure him, signalling their union. Making their way past the flights of soldiers to the bottom floor with difficulty, Susan made it onto the burning Casino floor overrun by soldiers, using the weapons at her disposal. Whilst Isaac was distracted with fighting, however, Susan yelled over for him to notice a grenade launcher firing directly at him, throwing Isaac through a cloud of smoke. Shooting dead the soldier, Susan rushed over to Isaac's body, fearing his death and begging for him not to give in. Putting his arm over her shoulder, Susan attempted to find the exit with Isaac only to see it blocked by flames. Unbeknowest to them, a remaining fighter picked up the grenade launcher and fired again, forcing Susan to do quick-thinking and dragging Isaac behind a table. The force of the explosion force the flames to part, successfully blasting them both outside.

Cut, bruised and majorly injured by the force of the explosion and their subsequent brutal roll on the pavement, Susan and Isaac found themselves in the midst of a thunderstorm. Rushing to retrieve the car at the car park, Susan was horrified to see the sky filled with smoke, indicating that Las Vegas was reduced to a warring ground between the Iron Dynasty and the Las Vegas Police Department. Furious, Susan came to a mutual decision with Isaac to go wherever the action was happening and fight at a blockade set up by the Aria resort.

While dispatching many of the armed men, an armoured vehicle crashed through the blockade. From the smoke emerged the swordsman, who challenged both Susan and Isaac, commanding them to take out Isaac's swords and fight them. Focusing on the figure, Susan was shared one of Isaac's spare swords as they took readying stances. A brutal battle ensued between the three of them, and surviving near-death odds, Susan co-ordinated her attacks with Isaac, enabling them to overpower the swordsman, crack their armour and break their mask in half.

Shedding their helmet, the swordsman was revealed to be Adria, sending Susan into a complete meltdown of shock and disgust, crying on the ground. Though Isaac attempted to take Susan, still devastated by the reveal but slowly reeling from the stunned state, and escape, Adria launched a grenade in their direction, forcing Isaac to impulsively throw Susan over the car and have him take the explosion; effectively making her seem dead. Susan silently watched from behind the cars as Adria took Isaac with her in the armoured vehicle, the rain slowly stopping, and she watched it drive past the wreckage and carnage left behind by the attack, unable to move and helpless.

Showdown at Nevada Test Site

In what feels like several hours passing for her, Susan returns to the King Rancher to find a beeping sound from the device Isaac left in the vehicle. The digital map of the car shows where Isaac is being taken, and Susan sees this as a hopeful sign, but nevertheless deeply contemplates whether she should proceed forward. Unrecovered from the tragedy of seeing Adria once again and still troubled by the thoughts revolving around in their head, Susan nevertheless decides to go forward in order to find answers, taking the car out to the Nevada desert.

An hour or so later whilst driving in the middle of the desert, the signal dropped out and Susan, buried in her overwhelming thoughts, stops the car and drops out, ready to give up and even going so far as to wish for her death. In her mind, Susan blamed herself for everything that had happened then and in the past, absolutely distraught and beside herself. However, Susan slowly began to fight back against her negative thoughts, realising things more realistically and trying to recover herself. Allowing herself to properly breathe and think straight past the collected trauam, it dawned on Susan of her power and abilities, helping her to deny her past thoughts; completely remembering her past memories and helping her realise how crucial Isaac has been to gaining her confidence, to who she admits caring a great deal about and even loving. Fully ready to confront her sister now, Susan got back into the car and drove onward, calling Dexter to let him know her co-ordinates in case she dies trying to stop Adria.

Dispatching the remaining Iron Dynasty soldiers as quickly and easily as possible, Susan stormed her way through the nuclear test facility to find Isaac, who called out to her. Attempting to carry him and unhearing Isaac's warnings, Susan came face to face with Adria. Trying to get her to see reason, Susan was forced to engage in a showdown with Adria alone, with her accusing Susan of being a coward and in the wrong. With Adria beginning the launching sequence of nuclear missiles to be sent towards the White House, which would ignite a world-wide war that likely would destroy the whole planet, the fight between them ensued, with Susan taking on immense physical pain and harsh, near-impossible conditions, eventually getting the upper hand on Adria. Though seeming to be about to kill her sister with a sword, Susan instead destroys the console, successfully stopping the launch, and drops the sword, walking towards Isaac where she collapsed beside his unconscious body, blacking out.

Another Parting

Approximately eighteen hours after the fight, Susan awoke in the local hospital, her hand closed around Isaac's. As Dexter sat down to talk to the two of them and answer their questions, Susan was informed they had both survived their near-death situation and that the incident escalated to a federal level, much to their dismay and groaning. In addition, Dexter also told her that Adria and the rest of the Iron Dynasty had been rounded up and arrested in order to ease the duo's persistent alertness. Susan turned his gaze towards an equally silent Isaac while Dexter slipped quietly out of the room, acknowledging they wanted to be alone, wishing to hold onto his hand forever.

Over the next two weeks in early November, Susan attended several of trials at the New Haven Supreme Court concerning the Iron Dynasty, and in the midst of the media frenzy over the events was unable to spend more time with Isaac. With her house arrest orders easing up, Susan finally made the decision to visit her parents grave at the New Haven cemetery, buying them flowers to replace the dead ones, and paying them the respect she was never able to give them or herself before.

Suddenly appearing from a distance, Susan was approached by Isaac, who tried to comfort her with a huge and remarking it was nice for him to finally see him. Susan stopped Isaac from leaving, who felt out of place and disrespectful to her moment, claiming that she wanted him here. Both attempting to making their feelings known, Susan and Isaac both tried speaking at the same time, making them chuckle. When Susan thanked him for his help in their journey, Isaac cleared his throat and tried to begun to express how she helped to improve and change him.

Before he could explicitly announce his love however, Susan herself was read to express hers and goes in to kiss Isaac, generating immense yet silent happiness and joy. Although Susan definitely reciprocated his feelings, she had considered for a good long time the reality of the situation, knowing that she would have to take it upon herself to reject him for both their betterment despite how awful it made her feel; understanding the harsh reality of the opposite worlds they inhabited and the fact of their emotional and psychological mindsets still needing work and being dangerous. Tearfully telling Isaac that they can't explore beyond any more than just a friendship, Susan watched as he fled on her bike, leaving Susan at the graveyard alone. With the day becoming dusk, Susan headed back home once more to contemplate the changes she would have to make forward, hoping one day that Isaac would return with his mind straightened and her way of thinking properly changed too.

Personality

"Isaac, I'm not about to uproot everything I have worked hard for years to earn just to settle into a life that I'm frankly not interested in right now. There is more to this then just me and you. And you don't get to choose how my life is run. Only I do. Only I can choose the path I want to take. You know that, and I know you know that because you know better than you like to put on."
―Susan Englebert

Idealistic, dedicated, and often described as a workaholic, Susan Englebert is a strongly independent, smart, compassionate and fierce force of nature. Driven (often to a fault) by her duty towards upholding the law in any way she sees possible and fit, the first impression that can be attained from Susan is of a righteous and virtuous by-the-books upholder of the law who is completely committed and determined to her work; making her seem heavily strict and no-nonsense.

In reality however, while Susan is undoubtedly studious, meticulous and dutiful to her dying breath and somewhat to a fault, her allocentric way of life has lead to her being extremely private and closed-off emotionally; burdened with incredible internal grief and regrets, often to the point of making her incapable of caring for herself foremost. Nevertheless, Susan has grown to partly reconcile her internal conflicts whilst maintaining her beliefs, albeit to stubborn and dogmatic degrees - slowly transforming herself into a leaderly, urbane, deeply empathetic and incisive person capable of holding agency on her own terms, though in the process over time coming to occupy a gray area of legality and even to some degrees morality. Nevertheless, these numerous qualities make her one of the most active and resilient characters even without the vast powers of her more powerful allies and enemies.

The most striking element of Susan, then, is her constant determination, hard work, earnestness and courage in her work as a police officer, being very conscientious, ambitious and forthright in her seeking of justice; challenging the system in order to help create better social reform for those most affected; overcome the systemic corruption facing the police force, and help those most in need. In addition to her caring, gentle and considerate nature, Susan is efficient, focused and quick-thinking whilst performing her job, holding a high reputation within the police force, as well as becoming quite daring and bold when required. Even so, her thoroughness, loyalty, and intuition easily makes Susan a serious person to fight against, being purposeful in every move that she imagines and executes. Above all else, it is Susan's high-minded, disciplined and honorable relentless pursuit of truth and ethical justice that characterises her and her good-natured actions most, especially with her explicit selflessness and willingness to sacrifice anything and everything to it, including her own relationships and happiness and even her own life - showcasing her undying fight for the betterment of all. The consequence of this leads Susan to become seen as rather mechanical and completely detached as principled as she may be, yet this is far from the truth once she begins to open up her truest self. Another flaw also arises in her initial over-obedience and adherence to the police force and the law in her earliest days, being rather timid as a result and thus barely being the inquisitive force needed to question the systems holding back bringing about the causes of true justice she endlessly campaigns and fights for and confronting evil she fights against; though eventually she does form into a more conscious and nonconformist fighter for good and, even at points, a revolutionary.

Considering her overall background, it is distinctly clear that Susan is extremely well-educated and raised in an upper-class environment, being well-spoken and articulate on most topics, particularly around her job, as well as rather polished, scrupulous and compulsively organised in almost all the formal aspects of her life. This informs her as somewhat of an authority figure in addition to being clearly incredibly intelligent, clever and perceptive, offering great insight and knowledge into a variety of issues and problems when working whilst remaining extremely principled and dignified with her ideological views and perspective. As a result, Susan can seem to come across as rather forceful and sensitive to causes and matters she thinks greatly of, aspiring to improve the world around her which she sees as broken, with very little room (at least initially) of thinking good can remain at several points in spite of her obvious optimism and trust in individuals such as Isaac Bubbles. Thus why she may indeed be gallant, outspoken and progressive, approaching the world with a constantly logical, moral and legal stance, her thinking was still deeply flawed, being overly idealistic in aspects, and overall broken by her experiences for a period of time.

Susan's inquisitive and honest nature often gets her into trouble from all sides of a conflict, with her attempting to be either a voice of reason or attempting to deconstruct the corruption and wrongs surrounding her. While many times in over her head as a result, her firmness, smarts and honesty are undeniable, not to mention her methodical, disciplined and always planful actions; taking responsibility when required and even when not. Appropriately assertive, shrewd and self-reliant, Susan is one of the few able to push through the hypocrisy and overwhelming wrongs of the police force. Still, her self-reliant, protective and even somewhat impulsive nature, meaning she can often attach to any form of closeness or intimacy very quickly, not to mention her decisiveness and self-sacrificial martyrdom, though not inherently negative traits, are primarily exploited by her enemies to her detriment, like Adria. In this way, despite her strength, Susan's vulnerableness and sheer, real humanity is indisputable.

As Susan eventually becomes weathered further by what she sees, particularly after the events of Double Edged Sword, her dutiful position and core beliefs are challenged harshly as she becomes disillusioned with and alienated from the system she has tried years to improve and work, including her government, their procedures, hierarchy, structure, tactics and more. Subsequently, Susan allows herself to be more vulnerable as well as flexible - coinciding with her growing interest to break out of her self-induced shell of self-criticism, regret and depression. Within this move towards a more questionable, maybe even dubious way of work, she revealed her willingness to bend the rules slightly to accomplish goals she is passionate for, again aided by her stubbornness and surprising resilience in her thinking. Though she was always very decisive and capable of making choices for herself, gaining great amounts of agency, her disillusion and shift into a more ambiguous stance and perception liberates Susan in several aspects, allowing her to start properly growing, open herself up to the world and, ultimately, improve it far greater than she could before; unshackled from the dutiful position she had long held and stuck to, which was partially due to the trauma and tragedy surrounding her parents and the promise she made to them.

Following this, Susan's true self becomes more immediately clear. Though still holding onto the majority of aforementioned qualities, Susan possesses a rather cool demeanour in spite of her seeming upper-class manner, capable of being incredibly gentle and playful next to her clear enthusiasm and steadfast faithfulness and loyalty. The sincerity she holds becomes more explicitly clear, being rather gracious, even tolerant and genuinely conciliatory and caring even if that may not always show (something she is bitterly aware of). Truthfully, Susan is rather rebellious and adventurous - an inner emotion fuelled and pushed primarily by her relationship with Isaac and his friends of the Enforcers - finding great joy as well as genuine meaning in being a iconoclastic and defiant individual, which factor significantly into her defection from the system she fights directly against. Susan is also considerably austere and minimalistic within her lifestyle, favouring the simple things over the pointless overcomplex; a positive outlook rather than a negative or pessimistic one that, even then, continues to look out for the betterment of the earth and humanity. Even so, Susan's observant and even absent-minded nature do not completely disappear, often brought on as a result of her internal struggles.

Despite this, in her constant aim for perfectionism, Susan regularly (mostly internally) turns extremely self-critical, self-denying and solitary despite her admittance that she hates the loneliness she self-imposes upon herself. This is partially part of her incredibly complex defensive mechanism of grief and trauma, having distanced herself from most of society over the years to dedicate her life to one cause, finding little meaning elsewhere. Because of this, Susan is ironically inarticulate when speaking outwardly about these matters despite holding a surprising capacity for comprehending herself and her own emotions, further adding to her self-hatred and self-belittlement, keeping her truest, most free and happiest form locked away for the most part. Susan despises her loneliness and seeks above else to feel as though she were understood and have someone to balance her out, something she is able to find within Isaac even in spite of their initial and continuing conflicts. Nevertheless, Susan compensates for these issues partially through her over and self-determination, relying on her ideals to escape confronting her emotions or past and much more by shoving them to the side, even when she is fully aware of the inevitable futility of this. Through her simultaneous learning of understanding and compassion with others, Susan is able to work on her depression and trauma as well as rework some of her positions, leaving herself more vulnerable yet all the more powerful at the same time.
